Phil and Pat Baxter were married on November 29, 1958. On November 22, 2008 a surprise celebration was held in their honor at the Historic Schlegelmilch House in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. Sponsored by their children, Colleen Baxter and Nancy, Charlie and David Stein, the Baxters were greeted by friends as they entered the Schlegelmilch residence for what they thought was a tour of the home decorated for the Christmas holiday. Wonderful food, beverages, special songs and friends delighted the couple during an exceptional evening filled with memories. Colleen flew in from Florida and Nancy and family drove from Pennsylvania.

The Baxter's 50th Anniversary Song

Pat Reinardy and Nora Fuller collaborated on writing and singing with Jean Mundt at the piano - "The Baxter's 50th Anniversary Song". The words are below along with a video of the actual performance.

THE BAXTER'S 50™ ANNIVERSARY SONG

November nineteen fifty-eight--a very special time.
The two of you got hitched for life, the wedding bells did chime.
Your marriage almost didn't come off—it just about was doomed,
Too many stingers the night before almost felled the groom.

CHORUS: Oh those Baxters, Oh those Baxters; from far and near,
You can hear, their laughter in the room.

Oh, Phil spent many nights away, his job was on the road.
While Pat took care of kids and dogs and bore the household load.
Whenever he'd arrive back home the bedlam would resume,
Colleen and Nancy'd celebrate cuz' Dad was in the room.

CHORUS

When Phil retired, & your girls were gone, the two of you moved, too.
You found the city of Eau Claire and thought that it would do.
The grandkids near and curling here, just added to the bloom,
You both could curl and drink a bit and sing an Irish tune.

CHORUS

Your curling days are in the past, but not your curling friends;
Phil's Wednesday golf, Pat's Thursday lunch, the fun just never ends.
And Friday nights when we go out, "no pickles" Pat will fume,
It's kind of strange, but she won't change; she'll say that to her tomb.

CHORUS

Now time has gone so swiftly by, you're married 50 years.
With family and friends you've shared both laughter and some tears.
But one thing has remained the same, though youth has lost its bloom
When e'er Phil gets his Irish up, Pat will lower the boom.

CHORUS

I'll Be Loving You

The Baxters love to sing. Here, Colleen Baxter and Mark Hiemenz sing I'll Be Loving You accompanied by Jean Mundt on the piano.
